Health insurance is mandatory for all students for the entire duration of their stay in Poland.
Health insurance rules for EU citizens and for non-EU citizens are different. You can find out more about it below.
EU CITIZENS:
In Poland EU citizens are allowed to use their own health insurance from the countries of origin, providing that they possess the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Using the services provided by Polish healthcare requires presenting the card.
non-EU CITIZENS:
Non-EU citizens are advised to conclude an insurance agreement with the Polish National
Health Fund and pay a monthly contribution to the above-mentioned institution.
Students with a Pole's Card or a certificate of Polish origin issued by a Consulate do not have to pay health insurance contributions on their own. In such cases, the obligation to provide health insurance rests with the University.
Those interested in having health insurance in Poland need to submit an application form to the Małopolska branch of the National Health Fund. For this purpose, it is necessary to present the following documents:
- the application form
- a passport together with a document confirming legal stay in Poland (visa or Residence Card)
- a document confirming the status of a student (Student Card or a certificate from the university)
- a permission from parents to sign an agreement (if minor)
- a copy of the Pole's Card or a certificate of the Polish origin (if applicable)
Any documents drawn up in a foreign language must be provided with a sworn translation into Polish.
